Get outside & enjoy the great outdoors! June is National Camping Month and luckily for those of us in NW OH and SE MI, there’s no shortage of fantastic campgrounds in the area. Whether you’re a life-long outdoorsman or trying something new, you’re sure to find the perfect spot to set up camp.

Monroe Co./Toledo North KOA

Petersburg, MI

Relive your summer camp years! This one’s a great spot for new campers and those who are looking for a family-friendly atmosphere. It’s ideal for a quick getaway and located less than 15 minutes from the Toledo/Michigan border. Kids and adults alike can catch their thrills on the 220-foot-long double-loop water slide. The campground also offers a sandy beach, outdoor movie screen, boat rentals, mini golf, an inflatable obstacle course, bounce house and slippery slide. Even your dog gets to join in on the fun at the Kamp K9 dog park. Want the outdoor fun without the outdoor sleep situation? Try one of KOA’s Camping or Deluxe Cabins.

Sunny’s Campground

Wauseon, OH

Another perfect spot to take the kids! Sunny’s Campground in Wauseon has endless forms of entertainment. Their amenities include a lifeguarded swimming lake, video game room, 18 hole mini golf, paddle boat, basketball court, volleyball, 4 playgrounds and a mini playground for children 7 and under.

Pokagon State Park

Angola, IN

Located on Lake James, this Indiana treasure is open year-round. It’s a beautiful setting that caters to the laid back camper. During summer trips, take advantage of the campground’s fishing, hiking, bike paths and nature center. Stop back in the winter for a lodge experience, cross country skiing and a turn down the toboggan run.

East Harbor State Park

Lakeside-Marblehead, OH

About an hour east of Toledo is one of the area’s most breathtaking beaches. East Harbor is located on the shores of Lake Erie, just across from Put in Bay and Kelleys Island. It has more than 1,800 acres to explore. The park’s wetlands offer fantastic bird-watching opportunities and nature lovers can roam over 10 miles of walking trails. You can also rent a boat, play some disc golf, fish, or just relax by the beach.

Pinckney Recreation Area

Pinckney, MI

If you’re an outdoor enthusiast looking for an off-the-grid experience, Pinckney is the place for you. The remote campsites and 40 miles of multi-use trails are a dream come true for the experienced backpacker. It is also known for the chains of fishing lakes, several of which can be used for ice fishing during the winter. Perhaps you’re looking for a bit more speed? Their trails also accommodate mountain biking and snowmobiling.

Two Person Walking on Pathway Between Plants

Maumee Bay State Park

Oregon, OH

Last, but not least, who doesn’t love Maumee Bay? Situated on Lake Erie, this state park is full of natural wonders. The land includes prairies, marshland and swamp wetlands. It’s a wonderful place for observing wildlife. Take an interactive tour at their state-of-the-art nature center, staffed by a year-round naturalist. The park offers miles of trails through the wetlands with gorgeous views of Lake Erie. Archery, fishing and golf are just a few of its other activities. Need a little time indoors? The Maumee Bay Lodge is packed with amenities: indoor pool, game room, kids’ splash pad, racquetball, amphitheater, and so much more.
