The Jewel of Toledo!
It sparkles like a jewel thanks to its remarkable display of glass mosaic murals installed before the opening of the Toledo’s Main Library in 1940. These “jewel-like” puzzle pieces of hand-cut glass were placed onto large panels of Vitrolite. It displays 80 colors and stands six feet tall. The glass mural is an illustration of the history of arts and sciences spanning from architecture to philosophy according to Toledo Lucas County Library Blog.
The Main Branch is currently under a major reconstruction project but, rest assured, the Vitrolite will remain intact. The Main Library’s estimated opening date is September 28, 2019.
The Library is currently under the direction of Acting Director Jason Kucsma. The executive team proudly leads 20 branches across the greater Toledo area. The branches have nearly two million volumes accessible not only in print but electronically as well. In fact, the Library offers some intriguing hidden stories specifically about Toledo. Check out Lou Hebert’s interesting read the Hidden History of Toledo. It contains stories from Toledo’s Biggest Robbery to Toledo’s Forgotten Star: The Beautiful June MacCloy, who graduated from Scott High School and was blessed with a deep, rich and husky singing voice.
All Branches offer OverDrive which is your one-stop place to access eBooks, Kindle books and audiobooks. The Lucas County Public Library also offers books for sale as low as $1 per hardcover copies. The next date of the book sale is July 11, July 12 and July 13 at the Book Center in the Reynolds Corners Shopping Center. Click here for hours of operation and additional details.
